PMA to host new industry conference in San Francisco

Photo Marketing Assocation International (PMA) has announced a new event for the photo and imaging industry. “InnovationNow” is to take place September 27 and 28, 2015 at the Hilton Parc 55, San Francisco, California, USA. Designed as Photo Business and Technology Summit, the event will feature high-caliber speakers discussing products, concepts and strategies that enable manufacturers, imaging service providers and retailers as well as photographers, studios and software developers to offer consumers new ways to experience their pictures and memories in social and mobile networks.

“It is no accident that we are locating InnovationNow in San Francisco”, said Georgia McCabe, CEO and Executive Director of PMA International. “Silicon Valley is very important to us, because new imaging stakeholders like Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon have actively adopted and evangelized connected photography. In fact, these players are driving a new development that could eventually result in impenetrable big data ”walled photo archives” in the cloud.”

“As an industry, we have to respond to this development with new and exciting consumer experiences and compelling well-merchandised, high-value photo products and services“, McCabe added. “That’s why we need to come together, share our perspectives, leverage our knowledge and collectively roll up our sleeves to put our industry back on the path to continued relevance and success. That’s exactly what InnovationNow will be all about.”

The San Francisco event is part of a new strategy that PMA developed in the first half of this year under the guidance of Georgia McCabe, who was appointed CEO and Executive Director of the association end of 2014. Since then, McCabe has toured the industry and talked to countless representatives of manufacturers, retailers, service providers and associations all over the world to develop a vision of PMA’s new target and future strategy. At the same time, she reorganized PMA and appointed the award-winning association management company, Coulter, McLean, Virginia, USA, to handle its day-to-day operations. In May this year, the PMA Executive Committee unanimously approved a new strategic direction for PMA. It is based on four key pillars:

Empower businesses to effectively serve and sell imaging products and services to the consumer; Evangelize, advocate and promote overall industry interests; Provide knowledge and expertise that enable photography businesses to grow and thrive; and Create, support and promote industry-related guidelines and conventions.

“The InnovationNow photo business and technology summit marks an important step in our new strategy”, said McCabe. “Recognizing that change in digital technology occurs at an ever accelerating rate, we need to continually recast our business models and product offerings in order to remain relevant and profitable as the market moves forward at breathtaking speed.”

The two-day InnovationNow event will lead into the 3rd Mobile Connect annual conference, organized by Suite 48 Analytics, which will be held September 29 at the Golden Gate Club in the Presidio Park, San Francisco, California. Attendees of both industry conferences will have the opportunity to meet at a joint reception on September 28 that will conclude the InnovationNow conference and kick-off the Mobile Photo Connect event. During the reception, PMA will present the first winners of the ”Out of the Box Award”. This newly created award recognizes innovation and collaboration by honoring companies and/or individuals for breakthrough achievements across the entire photographic and imaging segment.
